Contentions Involving Noragami

Noragami started as a manga series, authored by Adachitoka and published by Kodansha. The series premiered in Monthly Shōnen Magazine's January 2011 issue, released on December 6, 2010. As a minor god of calamity, Yato lacks even a shrine to his name. In attempts to become known, he charges only 5 yen to grant the wishes of Near Shore dwellers- a.k.a. the living. Throughout his missions, he encounters a Near Shore girl named Hiyori Iki whose soul frequently slips out of her body, and Yukine, a wandering spirit whom he names as his weapon to kill corrupted spirits with.

Here are some theories involved with this anime, take a look!

Hiyori's Half Phantom Form Scent Ability: Hiyori can detect gods by smell because she wants to eat them. Yato described her as something like a half-ayakashi, so is not impossible that why she says that they smell "good" she actually means delicious, like a complete ayakashi would; she just hasn't noticed yet, or she is consciously ignoring it.The manga seems to imply this as well Maybe a nice fragrance that is both a flavor and a scent or a tea smell.

Yato's Own Shrine: The reason behind Yato's obsession with getting a shrine is actually about escaping his father! Yato has revealed he can't stand up to his father because his father is the human whose wish caused him to come into existence, so if his father was wiped out, Yato himself may also cease to exist. Because a god's existence is tied to his believers, Yato is determined to build up enough of a following that he will always be remembered by someone other than his father so that he can safely remove his father from the picture and still continue to exist without having to grant his evil wishes. When Hiyori gives him the mini-shrine, he says that if his father found it he would destroy it, indicating that his father is actively against his independence.

Yato is an Antihero: Hard to believe but Yato is an antihero in the anime. Due to the ambiguous nature of his backstory and the fact that he considers himself Above Good and Evil, there's plenty of theories to go around. Is he really a Nice Guy who you don't want to push too far? Are his actions because he's atoning for his Dark and Troubled Past, much like Himura Kenshin? Is he really a Blood Knight or Ax-Crazy who is only kept in check by Hiyori? Yato tends to consider himself Above Good and Evil and mostly does whatever is requested of him. He becomes more heroic after the Yomi arc, where he resolves to be like Ebisu and make people happy as a God of Fortune.

Noragami is a lot like Rurouni Kenshin: The story begins during the 11th year of the Meiji period in Japan and follows a former assassin from the Bakumatsu, named Known as Hitokiri Battosai. After his work against the bakufu, Hitokiri Battosai disappears to become Himura Kenshin: a wandering samurai who protects the people of Japan with a vow of never to take another life. Watsuki wrote this series upon his desire of making a shōnen manga different from the other ones that were published at the time, with Kenshin being a former assassin and the story taking a more serious tone as it continued. Formerly an incredibly powerful warrior who killed people but left that life behind to serve as a goofy wandering bum who falls in with an Action Girl and a Bratty Half-Pint. One might be inclined to see shades of Himura Kenshin in there.

Noragami is a lot like Peter Pan:  Peter Pan, a mischievous little boy who can fly, and his adventures on the island of Neverland with Wendy Darling and her brothers, the fairy Tinker Bell, the Lost Boys, and the pirate Captain Hook. Noragami shares similarity to Peter Pan in a way! Yato is a lot like Peter, Hiyori is similar to Wendy, and Yukine is a lot like Tinker Bell. The Indian chief and his daughter is similar to Daikoku 'Koku' & Kofuku sort of. The mermaids are similar to Lord Tenjin and his shrine maidens (Whoa, that's weird to think about!), the Lost Boys and the thought of having a mother figure is similar to Bishamon and her regalia. Robu is similar to Captain Hook but more sympathetic and darker than the pirate. Though Nora is a darker version of Mr. Smee, even if we're all not sure of the circumstances.

Kazuma is similar to Yukio Okumira: He looks shockingly similar to Yukio Okumura from Blue Exorcist. They even have the same seiyuu. They're similar personality wise too, being the voice of reason to a being with immense potential for destruction, with the twist that in Yukio's case, it's not needed and in fact doesn't come from a good place like Kazuma, who does his duty truly out of care, loyalty, and love for Bishamon. Yukio and Kazuma both blame themselves for horrible other things. Though Blue Exorcist and Noragami are similar in a way: Eliminating monsters that people can't see, both look like their in their teens (Kazuma could be in his late teens), and both are the only sane man on this anime of insanity!

Yato, Hiyori and Yukine is similar to Eren, Mikasa and Armin: Their a comparion between the three of these two groups. There is the dark hair of Eren and Yato, the blonde-ness between Armin and Yukine, and the only badass girl of the group of Mikasa and Hiyori. And their friendship is heartwarming. Eren, Mikasa, and Armin's friendship is pretty heartwarming. Eren was willing to dive into a Titan's mouth to rescue Armin. Mikasa is extremely protective of Eren and is willing to do anything, and go anywhere to be with him. When Armin tells her that Eren died for him, Mikasa, despite her devotion to Eren, never held it against Armin and still thinks of him as a friend. While not as obvious as Mikasa, Eren is protective of her as well. He is always quick to defend her and was horrified when he realizes that he unconsciously attacked her as a Titan. Despite Eren and Mikasa always having to save Armin when they were kids, they never once thought of him as anything but an equal. Or the fact Mikasa and Armin treat Eren just like they always have, despite him being able to change into a Titan. Everyone else is or once was horrified by this. They were trying to reach for each other when the Titan snapped its jaws shut and swallowed him; when Armin crouches down and laces their fingers together, he's making up for not being able to do it before. Neither Armin and especially not Mikasa doubt a second before being shown to be willing to sacrifice their lives, social standing, and everything to run off with Eren after the military and pretty much everyone turns against him. It isn't even a plot point, it isn't discussed. Their support to Eren is a given and completely unconditional. That, my friends, is a true bond. In Noragami; Yukine becomes very devoted to both Yato and Hiyori. This is shown the best when his Shinki form evolves as a proof of his absolute loyalty to his master. Sweet isn't it?

Matt died and is resurrected as Kazuma: This sounds  like this makes perfect sense! Y'all remember Matt from Death Note? How he died, and we didn't know much about his character in the anime but in the manga, his part is extended which is a shame for the anime. Anyway, it has been hinted that Kazuma is the reincarnation of Matt in way! As quoted here from TV Tropes it says: "Also perhaps may evoke images of Matt from Death Note, particularly in his interactions with Bishamon (who could be seen as Girl!Mello.)" So it makes total sense! Maybe it's not concluded but hey, it's a theory or imagination for all Matt fangirls! Think about it.

Kazuma is in love with Bishamon: Kazuma cares greatly for his master. He is immensely loyal to her and wishes to protect her. However, he is willing to confront her if necessary, for her own sake or for the sake of his fellow shinki. Vaisravana, in turn, seems to view him as an equal instead of a subordinate, asking him for advice and considering and valuing his opinion. He is also very precious to her because he is one of her blessed shinki. Interestingly enough, the manga hints at some romantic feelings he might have towards his master, from the incredibly interesting background he has on his cellphone to becoming ballistic should said master ever disappear. He is also shown to be protective of her, and goes as far as to kill one of the Regalia to preserve her health. Why is that? After much evidence I have made; I found out why Kazuma cares so dearly about Bishamon...HE LOOOVVVVVVVVVEEEES HER!!!! (Yes, I did an imitation of Happy, so there!) Kazuma looks like a serious and composed man, but he's secretly hoarding Bishamon's photos and has some eromanga based on her from Yato. Oooh la la, Kazuma's a naughty boy! LOL! And when Yato showed up in front of Bishamon after kissing her, he had a knife ready.

Kofuku and Daikoku 'Koku' are Married: Well, regalia and gods can't get married but it is hinted they act like a married couple. A good one, really! Koku and Kofuku are essentially married. While not perfect, they act like a relatively happy married couple and they sure have it easier than Yato and Hiyori. Also, Koku managed to find a spirit of a child for Kofuku to make into a regalia but it was proven too much with the blight.
